During our Saturday tutoring program and school holidays, we realized that many students stay at the centre from early in the morning until they are done studying in the evening, frequently going without a meal during the day. Most families in Kibera cannot afford 3 meals a day, and parents rely on their children being fed lunch while in school. We decided to incorporate feeding into our schedule on Saturdays and some school holidays to ensure that the students are not going hungry. In the future, we plan to solidify the wellbeing of our students by providing a monthly food basket with essentials for our students’ families to ensure that each child is properly nourished.
